What : 1 minute (max) compositions for solo timpani
When : Deadline for submissions Monday 27th June (earlier submissions appreciated!!)

To celebrate the release of my online database/guidebook for composers, The Kettledrum Compendium, a call-out to composers has been initiated.

I invite any interested person to write a short (1 minute max) piece for solo timpani using the compendium as a guide.

All works submitted to me will be performed and recorded.  Performances will take place over two of my upcoming recitals this year.

Furthermore, 20 of these works will be premiered at an exciting performance opportunity I have been given at the 2016 Australian Percussion Gathering, entitled:

TIMP.20 - 20 world premieres for solo timpani in 20 minutes.

Please contact for more information.

  • *Note (added 1/5/16): A few people have enquired about the maximum number of drums to be used in the composition.  As a musician, I prefer not to give composers limitations and instead see what they come up with uninhibited.   With this in consideration, it is my wish that composers do not feel restricted to using a 'standard' set of timpani; however, grandiose requests may have to be amended for performance.  Please contact me if you are unsure.
